Congratulations to our WINNERS!!!!

..yes, you heard right...winnerS! I couldn't decide..and really wanted to pick all 14 of you, being all Minnesota Nice and all, but I don't like cooking that much...but did pick TWO lucky winners!

Can I just say, you guys really helped a girl out of a bind today! I am pleased as punch to have received 14 entries. Who knew that many people read my blog. Furthermore, all of the entries came from friends, who knew I had that many friends! Seriously, NO ONE from my family entered...and I think it's because I eliminated any cream soups from the ingredient list..that pretty much eliminates all Minnesotans from entering. Sorry Aunties - perhaps we'll have a hot dish contest in the Fall and you will be sure winners!

The Winners (in no particular order...)

Jaci (incidently just celebrated her wedding anniversary - go check-out her blog..she evidently got married at 12, which is typical where she is from..and I laugh that her blog name is tootiredtocook, yet she won this contest...hhhmmm..)

Congrats, Jaci with your winning recipe of Broccoli Delight Salad! email me your home addy again so I can stalk you and mail you a $10 card to Starbucks..not that you can use it in your village.

The ingredients..

The finished product - colorful, heavenly, scrumptious...I don't think I will share this one at the party and just keep it in my fridge all to myself...nananabooboo!

BROCCOLI DELIGHT SALAD
1 head broccoli, cut up fine
1 cup purple grapes (sliced in half)
Dressing:1/2 cup Miracle Whip(I used real Mayo as I have a large aversion to MW)
1 tsp. vinegar(I used cider for a bit of a kick)
1/4 cup sugar(combine all in a cup with lid, shake/stir well and pour over broccoli and grape mixture)

Just before serving add crisp cooked crumbled bacon (optional) and one cup slivered almonds

Kristi (go read her blog, she has some wonderful recipes, gardening tips and animal stories to share) Congrats to Kristi with her winning recipe of Pasta and Pesto Salad! I know where you live and you have a choice of a bottle of wine, or Coffee card to your coffee hut of choice...and it would be nice if you share your gift with me...hint, hint...ahem.

The ingredients...

The finished product...oh my goodness gracious I couldn't help but snack the whole time I was making this....yummmmmyyyyy!!!

Pasta and Pesto Salad
1 lb pasta shells or penne (I used Wagon Wheels so kids might be more apt to try it)
1 tub store bought pesto
grated zest and juice of 1 lemon
2 scallions (I skipped these)
1/2 pint grape tomatoes, halved (buy Bushel Boy, they are MN grown so no salmonella fears!)
1 lb bocconcini (mini mozzarella balls)
1 c. fresh basil leaves
salt and pepper to taste

Cook the pasta to al dente, drain and run under cold water to shock and cool.

Place pesto in a large bowl, add lemon juice and zest, along with scallions (or not), tomatoes, and cheese. Then throw in the very well drained pasta, stir up from the bottom and coat the noodles evenly. Season with salt and pepper, tear up the basil and fold it in. Easy peasy!

Now everyone go cook and have a picnic! I'll report back tomorrow with the raves from the party on my goodies.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and I WILL be cooking your recipes soon!

xoxo, t

Wooohooo.....I'm a winner! And I am staying true to my blog name that I'm too tired to cook. This recipe (and I have the hand-written recipe card to prove it) was given to me by my grandma and she makes it most often in our family. I just enjoy eating it. And I got married at age 22, thank you very much! Golly gee, I'll have to travel yonder on to the city to use my fancy-shmancy Starbucks card. It'll be like a vacation!!
