It was a very Donut Birthday...

Happy Birthday, Donut Cat!

Yes, our "baby" turned 1 this weekend. My how time flies. The girls insisted on throwing Donut a proper party for his 1st birthday. The original plan included inviting all 12 cats from our neighborhood, sitting them at the table, putting party hats on them, singing happy birthday, and then having them eat Tuna cakes.

I explained to the girls that cats aren't really social animals when it comes to being with other cats..they aren't going to walk in a room and high-five each other and chat about the days hunting expeditions..and I know they aren't going to all sit still so I can place party hats on their little heads.

So, we compromised and invited Donut's brother, Squeaky over only and figured we could just sing to both of them..and hope to goodness they could get along for a 1/2 hour while we ate cupcakes.

Donut's life started out tragically like many kittens do, I am sure. He and his siblings were found in a ditch just a few days old...thrown there by a rancher in South Dakota, who just didn't need anymore farm cats I guess. The neighboring rancher found them and took them into her home, kept them warm and fed them with formula from the vet. When they were strong enough to travel..she brought them back to her home in the City...which happens to be directly behind us...the rest is history.

Here are a few pictures of the joyous birthday party. Can I say that I have never seen the girls so excited..even for their own birthdays!

The first encounter of the brothers....

How cats react when they don't want to share their toys...

The cupcakes(for people) that the girls made...

And we had snacks too...

We played party games like hide and seek..

..and king of the mountain..

..and the party guests - yes, we had to invite Kristy, the lovely lady who found the kittens by her ranch and saved their lives..and that sweet teenage boy is Squeaky's dad.

Thanks for letting us share.

So cute! We rescued kittens last year too - never thought about having a party for them though. I'm sure the girls would love that idea!

WHAT A GOOD IDEA--A CAT BIRTHDAY!
WE'LL HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT.
ACTUALLY OUR GIRL BRAHIMA DID REMEMBER FATHER'S DAY WITH A CHIPMUNK PRESENT AND AN EXTRA TAIL
ON THE DOORMAT, SO WE SHOULD PROBABLY GIVE HER A PARTY ON HER DAY!
