Daily Bread...

Two months into the New Year and I am making some progress on my goals.

I am using yeast for baking at least once per week - either making breads, rolls, or pizza doughs. You know, because I have like 3 extra hours to myself each week to knead dough - between lice picks, laundry, nursing and Girl Scout cookies, and of course the daily life crap. My husband saw my head explode today when I came home to find him reading on the couch with his feet up, oblivious to the 6 loads of laundry around him, homework to be done or dinner to be made, because we have too much daily life crap to deal with to find time for that behavior.

But I had time to make bread on Sunday. Maybe that is like my reading on the couch time. Not.

Baking with yeast is easier than I imagined it would be though, and my heart is full when I see my labor disappear within minutes of removing it from the oven.

Homemade bread is making my family happy. And getting my aggression out on the dough takes me to a happy place.

How is your New Year going?

MMMMmmmmm....I can smell it from here, Tracy. I'll bring my marmalade and will be right over.

And when I get there, can you explain to me why men can't ever remember the flash cards, spelling list, and instruments need to be practiced EVERY NIGHT? Why is it along with my 3 children, I have to remind my DH this needs to be done too?

That bread is beautiful! There is nothing quite like homemade bread fresh from the oven!
I totally know what you mean about all of the daily life stuff that just takes up SO MUCH time! I used to be a prolific reader, but these days I can't even finish a magazine...to me that would be a perfect vacation, just being able to read & sleep! But like your previous post (which I think I forgot to comment on), I don't like leaving my kids either. I am fine to leave them for an evening with one of our parents, but I feel naked at the thought of going away without them. I generally nurse for at least 14 months, so it is not often an option for us...but in the last 8.5 years we have left them in the care of grandparents exactly twice so we could go away for a weekend. And truthfully, they loved it more than I would care to admit!

Eight years ago, when you were still living and working in Europe, could you have IMAGINED this life you have now? Major domestic goddess, sewing and working with yeast?

And yes, kneading dough WILL prevent your head from exploding at the site of your husband relaxing amidst the daily chaos...

Way to go!!! I can't complain about my yesr. I'm down 14lbs...only 30 to go. I'm a workout-a-holic now & oddly AFTER the 30lbs is gone, my other resolution was to get pregnant. This summer we hope! :0)

Yum! That bread looks delicious! You continually amaze me with all that you do!

So how is my new year going? Well, I did make a big list of things I wanted to accomplish. Which was an accomplishment on it's own.

However, I don't think I've made much progress yet. It is past time for me to update my first month of "65 in 365". The pickings are going to be slim.

There is so much I need to do and want to do. One thing I've done is shop...a lot. I've bought organizational items and lots and lots of kitchen items. Including a bread maker! But they are all untouched, still in their packaging. Some boxes have not even been open (atleast they were brought in from the porch, ahem, not by me). *blush*

I'll take this as an accountability check. And get to working-maybe.
