Just Breathe...

I cannot relax.

I am one of those people who loves yoga, but when they do the deep breathing/meditation part - I act like I am doing it, but instead look around the room and watch other people really doing it, analyze how my ass and boobs look, AND at the same time make my to-do lists.

I am one of those people that when I have gone to church or before a meal when they say "let's pray" - I don't close my eyes or pray at all - but look around the room watching other people in silent prayer as I pick lint from my skirt and make my to-do lists.

I am a morning person and as Jed so eloquently says about me "you get more done before 6am than most people do all day."

My parents made us go to bed by 10pm even as a senior in high school. This was mainly so we could get up by 5:30 to start our days.

We should've lived on a farm.

When I watch people "do nothing" or as they call it "relax" or "take a nap", I admit that I get angry. As I can think of about 5 million other things they could be doing.

I am out of my pj's by 6am every morning and expect my kids to quickly follow suit.

Watching people lounge in my home is very stressful to me.

So imagine my surprise during these 10 days of Winter break when we had nothing on our calendars. No travel, no appointments, no expectations, no structure, no lists.

For once in my life I actually cherished it. My kids stayed in jammies until 10am. We had picnics in the living room, we ate popcorn for dinner and if my kids wanted to watch TV and movies all day - so be it. We played board games, did art projects and made appropriate messes.

It was snowy and subzero and we just enjoyed the laziness and comfort of home.

Even me. I even read a book.

I do admit I was looking forward to yesterday - up by 4:30, school bus at 7:30.... but for 10 short days I actually enjoyed some easy breathing and lazy days.

xoxo,t

Finally, something that I cannot relate to with you....I reach my daily prime at 4:00 p.m....before noon, you won't get much out of me (even though I'm up at 6:00). I wish some of your traits would rub off on me, I admire that.

As far as peeking or thinking about other things when I'm suppose to be doing something else, THAT, I will admit, I do too :-D

I wish I was a morning person. I actually like mornings. But I like them best from my bed. :-P

So what time do you go to bed? I get up at 5:30 but I hate it every. single. day.

I too, can't relax. You and I would make great travel buddies!

p.s. I was a slug over Christmas too, maybe it's our age catching up with us?

Glad you took some time to relax and enjoy yourself. Minus the out of pj's right away (i would live in mine if it was socially acceptable ;) ) I am right there with ya with everything else! Glad I am not the only one looking around during prayer and yoga ;)

I cannot relax either... my morning begins at 5:30 and upon hitting my bed around 9:30, I crash. HOWEVER, like you, I took the New Year's long weekend to do nothing... bedtime was when we fell asleep, couch, beds, floor... where ever... I took the time to enjoy my house... I don't spend much time there. I like it... needs work... but sitting there I was able to decide on some of the things I'd like to do... January's list :)
Your organization & blogging gives me a quick second daily to reflect... as I cannot organize my own thoughts... I steel yours. You always seem to bring to paper the things that I have lived or am living...
Thank You Deary!
XOXO,
S

Okay, impressed with your morning-person self, but have to say that I'm an afternoon kind of gal. Happy you were able to chill during Christmas break. You should marry my husband, who is also a morning person and really ticks me off. He gets a ton done in the morning which makes me feel very lazy as I glare at him over my paper and sip my coffee. Ba-humbug.

Rachelle - you made me LOL. You would get along with my husband very well.

I go to bed around 10:30 - but of course still get up with baby 4 times per night..
...thus the pot of coffee before 5am.

Okay, let's switch husbands. Second thought, no, life might be better w/out them. Let's be single. Hmmm, that would also suck (who would repair stuff around the house?). And, help with the occasional math homework? I'm just gonna hafta deal. Meantime, helpful to know that you & your spouse are on different clocks. You're normal. Whew!

I am the one working from home in my pjs until, oh, sometimes noon. Good thing I don't get many morning visitors...I admire how much you accomplish in a morning-but let's see how that is working when you are my age...I'm just sayin'...but knowing you, you will be like this the rest of your life!

This is a great post & I have enjoyed reading the comments, too! I am the complete opposite from you, I go to bed LATE & loathe getting up early, but do it to get kids to school...some days I will nap, but those are fewer & farther between now with 4 kids going so many different places. I am like you though in that during the day, I am always busy, getting things done...well, I don't know how much I really get done, but I feel like I'm in constant motion all day! I have to say that it is a goal this year to actually do less (of the things that don't matter) and actually spend a bit more time just reading or playing with my kids...we will see how that goes.
Glad you had a nice relaxing break! Ours was like that, too, and we even stayed in our PJs ALL day once (or maybe twice...) I don't know if it is more kids, or them being in school/sports/activities or getting older or what, but I have started to really covet break time & having nothing on the calendar!
Here's wishing you a New Year with at least one Pajama day! (And sick days don't count!)

Oh my gosh, your comments about keeping your eyes open during prayers cracked me up! Growing up, we'd have "big Sunday dinners" with a lot of family, and I always sat next to my dad. He would always either kick me or poke me or something during the prayer, and we usually both had our eyes open. He passed away in 2003, so he never got to know my daughters, unfortunately, but it's so funny to me........Caroline, my older daughter thinks it's so funny that she never shuts her eyes during prayers. I like to give her a little poke every now and then during the prayer, too :) The tradition continues........:)
