Earth Day
by Jane Yolen
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone,
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.
And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.
That's why we
Celebrate this day.
That's why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth,
And the Earth is me.

You're such an earth mother...love the green pics of Miss Esther!
That was simply beautiful.
Love it :) I'd never read this before---I typed it out to use in my English class next year :)
Happy Earth day to you too. My kids were conscience enough about it they were Earthy themed clothing today. I'm happy to see children so aware of keeping the Earth healthy. Now if I only could get my DH to stop littering....
I love that we already have green grass this year on April 22. I cannot believe what a "real" Spring we've had this year!Beautiful poem & beautiful pics.
Adorable photos of Esther, noticed one was on the MJ blog! Hve to go, baby chewing on crayons...at least one is green, perhaps in honor of the day...
Hi Pretty Lady,
Just stopping by to say hi. Your blog is so beautiful, your pictures, your children. Awesomely talented.
